Preface
It’s been a busy busy busy year in real life, which translates to not much happening in game. I bought a house, got a new job, got engaged, and adopted a dog. Amidst all that, and coupled with unacknowledged burnout, I did not do much in the way of progress. I have, however, deliberated over some important (and somewhat unfortunate, I presume, for some) decisions about the future of the account.
I have talked about Sailing before, how it opens up a literal whole new world for me, and the excitement of that has reinvigorated my desire to play. But it’s made me realize that I’ve not been enjoying the grind as much as I used to, back when I had more free time.
I am not entertaining the thought of giving it up entirely, but I am going ahead and removing most non-region restricted barriers to content, such as Nex, Vorkath, Desert Treasure 2, Colosseum etc. being locked behind Godwars boss Collection Log completions. This, paired with the new areas I can go to via Sailing, will breathe new life into the game for me. And so, the sun sets on this chapter of the Barbarian’ story. But, a new era will begin soon.
Not too long after this progress log, actually. I plan on streaming (for charity, even!) me completing all the quests that the account will need (for Dragon Slayer 2, Desert Treasure 2, While Guthix Sleeps, and Varlamore). I will not be able to do DS2 yet due to still needing a theorycrafted 8 Quest Points for the 200 Quest Point requirement, but Sailing comes with at least 3 quests and they seem pretty important to the skill, so we’ll see what that brings.
This brings some benefits, such as those detailed in my last blog post, namely Ava’s devices, the Varlamore places, Fossil Island, and the Warrior’s Guild. I will not be waiting for the Sailing expansion that adds access to Fossil Island via Sailing, because who knows how long that will take. I will probably get a Digsite Pendant from cleaning finds for the Kudos for DS2, so I will use those in the meantime. I will be waiting for other un-added Sailing ports (The Morytania and the eastern Desert ones for example), though.
All in all, I will be reducing the challenge of the account, while maintaining the theme of the Barbarian and Wilderness character I’ve been building for the past 6.5 years, with the added flair of Sailing pinned on to it.
Progress
I have done a few important things in the nothingness of the past year or so.
In March, I got 72 Runecrafting from a random event lamp.

I had spent a great deal of that month killing Kurasks for combat exp, working towards 99 Defence, the party of which I was preparing for in the prior screenshot.

I decided to mine enough essence to get to 75 Runecrafting, for the Giant pouch, and during that stretch, I hit 83 Mining.

I did get all the essence I aimed to, but I have yet to commit to crafting it all.
Jagex finally un-cripplingly-nerfed Forester’s Campfires, so I burned a whole buncha Maple logs and got 99 Firemaking. No party for it because it’s a sorry excuse for a skill.

I cooked all the Sharks I had been afking, which got me to 104 Cooking.

Jagex released stackable clues, and I excepted the quest X Marks the Spot early, so I could benefit from that. I then set out to get 99 Attack at Kurasks, while juggling some Hard clues.
My first Hard Casket didn’t take as long as I expected it to (and makes me wish I had done this much much much much earlier). In it, I got a collection log slot, Red d’hide body (t). Useless, but neat.

I got lucky with the rest of the juggled stack, and got another casket, which rewarded me with Guthix page 4. This is part of an eventual goal of the account, finishing all the God books.

My 3rd casket was a bust, but the 4th got me some Purple sweets.

I hit 123 Combat from an Attack level.

The 5th casket gave me one of the major things I was looking for, quite unbelievably even, Bandos d’hide boots! These are better than Snakeskin boots, and they’re perfect for Godwars Dungeon protection, especially for Bandos trips.

My 6th through 9th caskets were duds, unfortunately, getting just a few more Purple sweets.
Prior to completing the 8th casket, I hit 106 Hitpoints.

I then hit 99 Attack.

The 10th casket contained White firelighters, a dud, but a Collection Log slot nonetheless.

I decided to grind more clues out, having a blast with the process (and enjoying the benefits that Kurasks provide). During that, I hit 106 Strength.

Casket 11 was a dud, but casket 12 was loaded, containing Feldip hills teleports (only a Collection log slot), an Unholy Blessing, and a Zamorak Stole, both great items, with the blessing being my best in slot melee and magic ammo slot item, and a good Godwars item. The stole will be nice for afk grinding with prayer.

After all that, I took a break from the game, occasionally doing farming runs and upkeep on the Kingdom, and then came back during Gridmaster. Once I finished with Gridmaster, I took a shorter break, during which Jagex announced the release date of Sailing, and it is a lot earlier than I expected them to make it. This sent me into a theorycrafting spree, building on top of what I had done previously and driving me to make the decisions I outlined at the beginning of this post. I also did some prep for the skill, hitting 101 Magic while making some planks.

This is the last post of this incarnation of the account. I hope y’all enjoyed what it was, and will continue to enjoy what it will become. Because I have, and I will!
Here’s some snapshots of the progress I have made.
